Syaheerah (Shaheerah) Lebai Lutfi is currently pursuing a PhD at Grupo de Technología del Habla [4] (GTH) – Speech Technology Group, University Politécnica de Madrid, Spain, under the supervision of Prof. Juan Manuel Montero. [5] Her stay is funded by a joint fellowship from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education [6] (MOHE) and University Science Malaysia [7] (USM).
She obtained a BSc. Computing from Bolton University [8], UK , in 2000 and a Masters in Software Engineering from University Malaya [9], Kuala Lumpur in 2007, also with a USM scholarship. Upon completing her PhD, she will return to USM to serve the Computer Science Faculty [10].
During Jan – April 2011, she did a research stay at MACS [11], Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, as a visiting researcher where she was involved with the EU funded FP7 project eCUTE [12]. eCUTE has eight European and Japanese partners and aims on developing innovative technologically-enhanced learning approaches in cultural understanding and sensitivity that will help to deal with cultural problems, targeting young adults (18-25 y/o) and children (9-11).
Before entering the research field, she spent three years in the industry – as an IT Executive at MaybanLife Berhad [13], KL and Systems Analyst at National Poison Centre [14], USM Penang
