Doctorate in Electronic Systems Engineering (RD 99/2011)

Doctorate in Electronic Systems Engineering (DISE)

Since the invention of the transistor, electronics has brought about an unprecedented technological revolution that has substantially increased people’s standard of living and has been key in the development of most industries. The electronics sector has income of more than 150,000 million euros per year and this figure does not stop growing. It is a constantly evolving industry that needs dynamic and innovative professionals who aspire to lead the advances of the future.

Welcome to the main information page about the Doctorate in “Electronic Systems Engineering” (DSE).

This PhD program has been recently verified. This program is heir to the Doctoral Program of “Electronic Systems” (DSE) with “Mention towards Excellence” granted by ANECA by resolution of October 6, 2011, with validity until the 2013-2014 academic year.

Likewise, the program is the heir to the doctoral program “Electronic Systems Engineering for Intelligent Environments” (ISEEI), which already received the Quality Mention from the Ministry in the 2005-2006 academic year, and renewed it during the 2006/2007, 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 academic years (Resolution of October 20, 2008 of the Secretary of State for Universities).

The Doctorate Program in “Electronic Systems” (DSE) arises from the initiative of the Department of Electronic Engineering (DIE) of the Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineers (ETSIT), of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). The scope of postgraduate studies covered by the program refers to Engineering and Electronic Technologies, although it includes others that are support and requirements for the development of applications, systems and services for future intelligent environments.

Despite its origin, this Program has the participation of professors from other Centers and Departments.

The program includes the collaboration of professors or researchers from other national centers (University of Alcala, the Institutes of Materials Science and Microelectronics of the CSIC, the Research and Development Center of the Navy, the National Institute of Aerospace Technology, the Gregorio Maranon Hospital, etc.) and foreign ones (the Paul Drude and Walter Schottky Institutes, of the Technical Universities of Berlin and Munich, respectively, among others) and some companies (Telefonica R&D, Vodafone Foundation) and other organizations (COIT).

The third cycle activities of this Program are grouped in the research areas of Microelectronic Devices and Technologies, Optoelectronics, Microsystems, Design and Test of Electronic Circuits and Systems, Processing Architectures and Support Software Tools and Components, Biomedical Systems, Speech Technology, Services based on Wireless Communications and Home Automation.

This Program has been conceived in such a way as to bring together the long research experience that the Department of Electronic Engineering has been accumulating since 1974, while focusing on research objectives for the so-called “Intelligent Environments” (Ambient Intelligence in the terminology of the VI Framework Program of the European Union), which lay the foundations for future Postgraduate programs that must be developed under the Bologna process.
