Resources and mobility

Material resources

More than 500 research projects are developed at the ETSIT-UPM, which generate 40% of the R&D&I benefits of the entire UPM and receive numerous mentions (scientific articles, monograph publications, patents, presentations, national and international awards). The DISE Program is developed, therefore, in an environment that is especially favorable to research activity such as the ETSIT.

The School makes all of its infrastructure available to Doctoral Programs.

Most of the Center’s surface area is dedicated to research and development in various areas, including those associated with this Program. It has 15 departments and 33 research groups, in addition to 4 institutes and research centers with their own entity. This activity is complemented by business chairs and more than 700 agreements with companies.

The Library has reading stations and multipurpose rooms for group work and, most importantly, provides doctoral students with access to countless electronic resources with full text of prestigious scientific journals. The specialized documentary collection consists of more than 70,000 books, in addition to numerous volumes in other formats. All these tools are fundamental for the correct development of the research training of doctoral students from DISE and other Programs.

Additionally, the Research Groups involved in the Program have the following material resources and direct administration services:

  • Top-level facilities and laboratories, in some cases not available in other Centers, associated with IPTC, ISOM and CEMDATIC. It should be noted that the ISOM is considered a “Singular Scientific Facility” by the Government of Spain.
  • Modern computers and exclusive and updated electronic design software obtained through the Europractice Consortium.
  • Workshop support and additional services for the installation and maintenance of research-related equipment.
  • Bibliographic funds and various documentation.

All material means and services, available for the development of this Doctoral Program, observe the criteria of universal accessibility and design for all, in accordance with the provisions of Law 51/2003, of December 2, on equal opportunities, non-discrimination and universal accessibility for people with disabilities.

In summary, there are excellent material resources and infrastructure for the correct development of the Program.

Mobility resources

The UPM has a grant fund to finance research stays in prestigious centers. Additionally, in each of the lines considered in the program, and considering the financial support of the active projects in each of the lines, an important part of the travel budget of said projects will be allocated to finance stays and trips of the students of the program.

The University, through the International Relations office, maintains a permanent information system through the website: http://www.upm.es/ Estudiantes/Movilidad, which is complemented by campaigns and promotional activities for the different calls. At the beginning of each semester, dissemination actions are launched in the different centers aimed at informing and promoting the mobility of their own students.

There are agreements and exchange agreements with Spanish and European Universities and third countries through general agreements (ILL Program/Erasmus, SICUE) and bilateral agreements.

The Department of Electronic Engineering, the department to which most of the professors of this doctoral program belong, has a great tradition of mobility of students and researchers (more than 90% of students access mobility grants for stays or attendance at international conferences), as demonstrated by the participation in the numerous joint projects and the grants obtained in competitive mobility calls. All programs taught by the Department are aimed at facilitating the completion of high-quality research work, including the Doctoral Thesis. An effort will be made to give it an international projection, seeking contact with other research groups in different international centers and encouraging stays there during doctoral studies. The main objective of the student stays is to obtain the international doctorate mention.

To achieve this, the collaboration and participation of professors from other Spanish or foreign universities has been systematically counted on. The financing of these collaborations has been provided by projects, obtained through competition, of different types (international or national, public and private), of which the professors of the Doctoral Program were principal researchers. The internal budget of the Department and the School has also been used. On the other hand, the stays abroad of postgraduate students were covered by the additional endowments of their scholarships (Ministry, Autonomous Community, or the University itself), or by the aforementioned research projects and contracts.

Furthermore, the responsible professors make their relationships with the different teaching and research centers with which they carry out their collaborations available to the Program, being aware that these have helped and continue to help improve the quality of the research being carried out.
